For the fun of it.

A foggy evening on the ridge.

A message sent to the group chat planning an overnighter was not jumped on, so my first solo adventure was set. Leaving Wellington City at 3 pm and going past work to have a pre-ride beer seemed like a good start to the adventure, and after adding air to my newly discovered blown shock, I hit the road.

The rig, and a quick stop for dinner.

For dinner, I stopped by Burger Wisconsin and found some space in my already packed bag for a post-arrival dinner, the ride which I’ve done many times, all went to plan except for a small diversion down the tip track (thankfully realised only halfway down). After walking back up, I continued on to the camp spot, which, given the wind, was surprisingly sheltered

After finishing my lukewarm burger and a beer, I’d brought up the light was fading so i set in for the night. My “flat camp spot” left more to be desired as I kept sliding down the end of the tent (note for next time). A very restless night was had, as happens in tents it seems, and I awoke to an awesome sunrise that made up for the foggy night before.

Pretty hard to beat a view like this.

Setting out relatively early, I rode the red rocks track down and around the coast to the local cafe to grab a coffee and a scone for breakfast, pre-tattoo appointment at 10 am was nice to catch up with my friend Jord and spin a few yarns about recent bike adventures.

After some punishment, and a quick stop by the beach, I set off home for a well-needed shower and a nap. Overall, a mixed bag for my first solo overnighter with inherent lack of point and proof that you don’t need to go far for an adventure.
