Double plain

Wellington Library reopening

After being relatively uninspired and unmotivated towards my street photography adventures i decided there wasn’t really any good reason that i couldn’t take my camera out and about more. Like any creative endeavour, or rather any endeavour at all, the only way to improve is to do.

This moment arose after the Wellington library reopening, having walked the floors and done the tours, the jazz and the vast crowds all felt a bit much, so a sit-down on the grass outside to escape was necessary.

I think this lady was probably feeling a similar way. This shot may be one of my favourites yet. The contrast between the line for the ice cream van and the serenity of an afternoon nap, with the different levels people stand and all the little interactions make it a busy scene, but she adds a sense of calm to the picture and almost brings the frame to a stop.

What a day.
