Wet wood and Sandflies

Moana Train station.

A classic West Coast scene.

I’ve uploaded this one on request from a friend, so here I shall write. This is the Moana train station, located in you guessed it, Moana, on the West Coast of the South Island, New Zealand. A bit of history behind this one, it opened in 1892 as part of the Midland railway, and 100 years ago today, it burned down and was rebuilt. It used to house a post office, stationmaster's house (1900), goods shed (1907), and tearooms (1911). I spent a weekend here with friends recently and explored the shores and surroundings of Lake Brunner. With all the West Coast rain and the West Coast sandflies, it’s hard to compare this part of the country to anywhere else.
