Comical gain

Ōrongorongo Track: Remutaka Forest Park, Wellington

I planned wander in the hills for a Saturday morning. After an hour and a half climb up a ridge filled with tree roots and small stream crossings, a sign saying “Lookout 10 minutes away” came into view. This seemed like an appropriate place to have a muesli bar and a drink of water. After walking down the next section of track a clearing came into view. Feeling quite accomplished at knocking off the first quarter of the walk and the biggest climb (344m) of the day i had high hopes of a well-earned view, turns out there is a shingle road that goes right up to the lookout, although private and not an option for the general public to reach the same point it was still comical to discover. insert something about the journey, not the destination. Thankfully, the rest of the walk didn’t follow a hidden drivable track and a feeling of fulfilment and roads less travelled was achieved.
